First let me thank you for taking the time to be involved with our collaborative project.  We all lead extremely busy lives and have multiple commitments we are dedicated to which can leave little time for anything extra.  Our hope is to make your involvement with this collaboration project feasible with minimal time commitment, but in turn, give back to you tenfold through the various sources of input and information.

While the Seattle School District allows choice schools as an option for parents, which has proven to be widely accepted and appreciated by parents, we have the unintended consequence of that flexibility creating a vast separation between desired schools with waiting lists and surplus budgets and Title I schools with massive challenges, little support and a desperate need for funding.

Whether you are brand new, been involved for years, are successful, just can't quite figure it out, or fall somewhere in-between, we want you involved.  The more parents and input we have, the more we can lift up all West Seattle schools to have positive enrichment for all students in our community.  The long term result of these collaborative efforts should be more of our West Seattle youth going on to college, pursuing extracurricular activities they may never have known about and reduce the risks of violence and drug use in our community by giving kids who may not get it elsewhere, hope.

Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, May 24th at 6:00 pm at Dubsea Coffee.  We will have a hard stop at 7:00 to be mindful of everyone's time.  Our focus for this meeting will be introductions of the individuals in the group, along with their biggest challenges and/or successes, and a brainstorming session of how we can be most helpful to one another going forward.

Thank you again for caring for ALL youth in our community.  As we have all learned, it takes a village.
